With the pandemic boosting employment demand in the healthcare sector and more law firms being set up with new lawyers entering the profession, AMP saw the need to further increase fundraising efforts to support students under Singapore Muslim Education Fund (SMEF).
The new SMEF-Rufaydah Nursing Award was introduced last year in 2020 in recognition of the importance of nurses on the front lines of care especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each student will be awarded with $700 for this bursary.
Apart from the SMEF-Rufaydah Nursing Award, the SMEF Scholarship is also open to Singaporean Muslim students who are pursuing medical and law degree studies overseas through the SMEF Medicine Scholarship and SMEF-Professor Ahmad Ibrahim Scholarship respectively; as well as the SMEF-Lieutenant Adnan Award for tertiary students who have overcome adversities in life and show resilience to excel in their studies.
Successful applicants will each receive cash bursary in the amount of $5,000 for medical students, $3,000 for law students, and $700 for SMEF-Lieutenant Adnan Award recipients.
A total of $319,900 has been disbursed to 111 students since 2013. Below are some of our SMEF past recipients who have benefited from SMEF.
The AMP SMEF bursary was invaluable to my family, providing financial relief particularly to my parents who were supporting the tertiary education of all their children at the same time. My parents placed great importance in education and wanted to ensure that their kids were provided the opportunities they themselves were not able to enjoy growing up. They were extremely supportive of our pursuit of tertiary education despite the financial strain they faced. As such, I am indebted to the AMP community and their donors for providing me an avenue in relieving the burden on my family.

Coming from a low-income household, my career aspirations would be much easier to achieve with SMEF’s financial support. It has helped me with my financial worries and allowed me to dedicate more time to my studies. I am sincerely grateful for SMEF’s aid in my journey, allowing me to get closer to my goals.

This year, we hope to raise $25,000 to assist 14 students. Help us reach our goal to assist 125 students by 2022! Your donations will be entitled to 2.5 times tax relief. Not only will you be alleviating the financial burden of our students in their educational pursuit, you’ll also be contributing to a greater purpose in supporting more Malay-Muslim professionals to serve the larger community.
And the best part, all donations received for this campaign will be eligible for dollar-for-dollar matching from the government!
